Alan is the Principal of AJB and Associates, a retail real estate consulting service. In that role, he supports retailers,developers and the investment sectors specializing in the acquisition and disposition of retail real estate assets.. On the retail side, Alan works closely his client's senior management team and provides leadership in the areas of concept development,store development, fleet management, as well as Landlord relationship management.His retail efforts have resulted in the successful launch of new, full price retail concepts for Under Armour, Fossil, New York and Company and Calvin Klein, to name a few. On the developer side, Alan has worked with such property developers as Vornado, PREIT and Oliver McMillan providing them with a retail perspective in the development of their growth strategies and relationships with retailers. In the acquisition of retail assets, Alan provided a retailers real estate perspective to Advent International in their acquisition of the Charlotte Russe retail chain.Prior to this, Alan was SVP of Corporate Real Estate at Gap Inc.(the world's largest specialty retailer), where he enjoyed an incredibly successful 25 year career. As SVP of Corporate RE, Alan was responsible for all the real estate, store architecture and construction activities for the 3500 unit specialty retailer which included Gap,Old Navy, Banana Republic brands.While SVP of Corporate RE, Alan helped Gap Inc. optimize their vast fleet,closing over 350 stores and reducing annual occupancy by over $25 million, while also launching highly sophisticated market mapping tools,implementing an all new lease management system.
During Alan's career at Gap Inc., his leadership and involvement in the process contributed to the launch and roll out of Old Navy,Gap Kids, babyGap and GapBody concepts,as well as the highly productive Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic Factory Outlet divisions.This was made possible by Alan's deep relationships within the commercial real estate industry.
As an industry leader , Alan has served a a member of the Board of Trustees for ICSC. In addition he is actively involved in the educational sector of that organization having served as the Dean of ICSC's University of Shopping Centers at the Wharton School and acting as instructor on a session of Retail Strategy Development which he created.Because of his industry leadership, Alan has been a featured speaker and panelist in many of the organizations conferences.
Alan sits on the Board of Directors of Stage Stores, a publicly traded 750 unit retailer headquartered in Houston,TX.. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the non - profit Real Estate Associate program whose mission is to identify,train and mentor minority candidates who hope to enter the commercial real estate industry.
A 1971 graduate of the University at Albany, Alan and his wife Joyce reside in Atlanta. They have two children and two grandsons.
